A LITTLE HISTORY

In 1969, an American woman named Jane Kochenderfer moved to Malta with her husband Stan and six young children. Stan’s aviation company was important to the oil industry, prevalent in Malta at the time. Other American women were also arriving in Malta with their husbands who worked on the oil drills. These women, many mothers with young children, were from small towns, primarily in Texas, and had never been outside of Texas, let alone outside of the US. To help these young women adjust to their new lives in Malta, Jane started the American Wives Club. She wanted to create a network of support and to foster friendships.

Even though now much bigger and wonderfully much more diverse, our purpose remains the same… to provide support to each other, to foster deep and lasting friendships. And we have great fun!
