Out and About |
The Singing Group Well, now we have come to the end of our second year as the AIWM choir. What began last year under the tutelage of Jenny Meads as an amorphous group of singers, singing popular and show tunes in unison has now developed into an accomplished choir singing everything from Rutter to Verdi to Monty Python, in part harmony under the beady eye of our new repetiteur Maria Elena Farrugia. M-E, as we affectionately call her, is a gifted teacher who loves and knows her music of all genres. She encourages us to sing a varied repertoire, but the main factor is enjoyment. We laugh a lot! As you can see from the photo above, we celebrated our final session in style with a Prosecco picnic and a short recital of classical and jazz pieces by Maria-Elena. We are always looking for new choristers. You do not have to be able to read music. You do not need the greatest voice in the world. With an ability just to be able to follow a tune, you will fit right in. All music is supplied and we have an online site where the various individual parts are recorded so we can practice - if needed! On our WhatsApp group we post Youtube videos of the songs we do, so we can sing along and hear how it should sound. Come and join us. It is great fun. Feel free to contact Jaqui Porter if you would like to know more about The Singing Group. |
Open Door In April, we were delighted to welcome 20 ladies from Open Door associations from The Hague, Prague, Munich, Zurich and France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region. It was a pretty special experience: showing our visitors the beauty of Malta, swapping stories and making new friendships. Huge thanks also to our Open Door committee for their hard work organising the event! Led by Lindsay Mann, the fun team included Kim Smith, Hope Moore, Madeleine Mahon, Mary Ann Freitag, Susan Galea Borg and Jane Reid. From Welcome Drinks, Dinners at members's homes, Afternoon Tea, Guided tours in Valletta, Mosta, Mdina, Blue Grotto, Dingli Cliffs and Ħaġar Qim — and the Gala Farewell Dinner, so many thank yous we received said it all:
